Anker is releasing a Nintendo-certified portable battery for the Switch

We’ve been using a PowerCore+ 20100 with the Switch since day one without issues, but Anker is looking to capitalise on Switch owners who are too anxious to use something without Nintendo’s official tick of approval with its PowerCore 20100 Nintendo Switch Edition.

The anxiety was stoked by a series of Google Plus posts from Nathan K (1, 2) claiming numerous flaws in Nintendo’s implementation of the USB Power Delivery specifications, and widespread reports of Nyko’s unofficial dock bricking consoles. Combined that with the fact that save games are often unable to be retrieved by Nintendo’s warranty repair service, we can certainly understand the reluctance to use a portable battery.

Anker claims that a fully-charged PowerCore 20100 Nintendo Switch Edition will get you 15 hours of additional playtime, and can be recharged in three and a half hours. In addition to the on-board USB-C port, there is a USB-A port with Anker’s proprietary PowerIQ fast-charging technology.

Orders will start shipping on July 10, and while no price has been announced as yet, we’re expecting to see a premium on the rest of the PowerCore range.
